Countdown to Wrestlemania XXX; 2 more days- Thursday Recap of Wrestlemania Today

Sunday night is looming, but there is still so much more happening before then.  Last night marked the beginning of the Wrestlemania Weekend coverage from the WWE Network with Wrestlemania Today.  It is a two hour talk show hosted by Josh Matthews, Alex Riley, Booker T and others.  I just wanted to take the time today to break down my thoughts on the first night of the show.

First off, this is awesome.  The show feels slightly chaotic with people talking over each other, but it feels fresh.  Different wrestlers come up to the panel and get interviewed and give their thoughts on their matches or other matches on the Wrestlemania card.  There are also exclusive taped interviews and video packages.  The funniest moment on the show was the video package of Big E going around New Orleans getting his fortune told, meeting fans, and hilariously eating beignets at a cafe.  In a few short minutes, Big E was able to show how much personality he has.  I will never forget the sight of using the powdered sugar to replicate his entrance with the chalk ala Lebron James.

Another big standout video package was Booker T's exclusive interview with Batista.  This felt like something you would see on Fox's Football coverage or on ESPN.  Very professional, and Batista came off like a guy that didn't give a crap about anything but winning.  I liked the format and feel to this interview and hope we get a similar treatment with other main eventers.

The number one thing you will probably take from Wrestlemania Today is the three part Shield interview.  They are showing a part on each day.  Part one was fascinating.  The Shield came off like stars.  That's pretty common in the ring, but in a normal sit down interview package, they were able to come off as naturally cool, talented, hungry guys that want to take over the business.

Overall, this show is really neat.  I definitely suggest catching up and watching last night's episode and keep watching throughout the weekend.  We will be covering all of the coverage from the WWE Network and maybe some other happenings from the wrestling world this weekend.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post, and thank you for supporting Impressions on Wrestling!

WWE Extreme Rules 2014: Thoughts and Review

I just wanted to do a quick breakdown of my thoughts on the show last night.  Overall, I enjoyed the show. That being said, there were a few things I did not care for.  Let's break it down! Pre-Show--- WeeLC: El Torito vs. Hornswoggle: This worked for me as a comedy special attraction.  The second half of this match really got over with the crowd at the IZOD Center.  Good for these guys to put on a fun show. Rating : *** Match #1: Swagger vs. RVD vs. Cesaro This was a fun match and had the crowd going.  The finish was terrifying with Rob cutting his face on the trash can.  This was a nice win for Cesaro, and I hope he can move on soon. Rating: *** Match #2: R-Truth and Xavier Woods vs. Alexander Rusev: Squashtastic. Plain and simply a quick and painless match that felt kind of pointless.  Rusev looks strong, and R-Truth continues to ruin Xavier Woods.   Rating : * Match #3: Bad News Barrett vs. Big E Langston (C) for the Int...

WWE Cruiserweight Classic: Thoughts and Hopes for the tournament

Wednesday night kicked off the opening of the 32 man tournament known as the Cruiserweight Classic. This is an extremely significant venture for the WWE and the WWE Network.  Growing up a wrestling fan, I didn't think I would see something like this happen in a major North American promotion, and certainly not the WWE.  The fact that most of the talent lineup are not under a WWE contract makes it even more fascinating. What also makes this tournament fascinating is the presentation.  This show is being treated like a sporting event with serious discussion on weight cutting, fighting styles and the representations of their countries.  They even did a Bracketology special.  This is a complete departure from the WWE presentation style.  This isn't sports entertainment, this is professional wrestling, and they are pushing that fact.  Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan bring a feel of legitimacy and excitement to their announcing that this show feels even ...

My thoughts on ROH Global Wars 2016 and why it could have saved Ring of Honor.

Last night's PPV was an important one for Ring of Honor.  Reports had been running about the unhappiness in the locker room, and that people wanted to jump off the ship.  They had been bringing in talent from New Japan for a while now, but the shows felt without any weight.  This how did not have that issue by show end. I am going to break down a few highlights from the undercard before I get to the big finish... War Machine vs. The Briscoes was a lot of fun.  Good brawling and near falls aplenty.  Kudos to these teams for putting on a show that provided a spark to the lower end of the card. Naito vs. O'Reilly was a fun match, although it suffered from the ending being obvious to the live crowd. Okada and Moose vs.  Tanahashi and Mike Elgin was a very good match.  I liked the flow of the match and Moose came out looking strong, which is good for ROH Bobby Fish beating Ishii was unexpected and appreciated by this viewer.  Good match tha...
