Impressions on Wrestling

2017... a crazy year. Not my favorite year in terms of world happenings, but a hell of a year for wrestling. There was an obscene amount of great matches last year. We also had some juicy news stories. I have decided to do a mini awards celebration for this incredible year. Please note that I do miss a lot of wrestling every year due to the sheer amount of content. These awards are voted on by one person, who happens to be me.  So this is a very biased list based on my opinions. There will be a mix of positive and negative awards, which will hopefully keep it fresh. Alright... all of the introductions are out of the way. Let's get to it!!! First up... Best Promotion New Japan Pro Wresting This is an easy pick for me to make. The in-ring quality of NJPW was off the charts in 2017. It started off with an amazing show in Wrestle Kingdom 11 and had some amazing shows along the way, like the G1 and Dominion. We had two amazing trilogies with Okada/Omega and Naito/Ta...

This week was the true start of the "New Era" according to the WWE, and it certainly seemed like it after Monday Night.  Tuesday brought us the first Smackdown Live after the brand split.  The "Blue Brand" had a lot to live up to, which was a truly impossible task. I will get this out of the way... Smackdown was nowhere near the quality of RAW this week.  But to be fair, next week's RAW probably won't be anywhere near that high bar either.  Smackdown has a much smaller roster, with very little depth in the mid card (as of now) and they have two divisions with nothing to fight for in the tag teams and women.  That being said this show had some highlight moments and has some things to look forward to.  They also did some questionable things too. Before we do that let's talk about the new look and feel for the show. Much like the other show, Smackdown got a new intro with a new song to boot.  They had a new set and had a lot of blue everywhere...

The internet... The internet is a giant cloud of knowledge, media, information, and opinions. Many innovations have formed through the internet; online chat, webcam video, news delivery, message boards, streaming videos, and many other innovations. As the base of users has grown so has the technology and the features.  Now you can write a opinion piece on your own blog without any job and have hundreds read it within days. You can stream a trailer for a new film within minutes of it's release.  The world wide web has truly changed the way people obtain information and entertainment. Today we will be talking about how much the internet has changed the way we consume Professional Wrestling. To do that properly, we shall go back in time... First we start from the beginning. There has always been the talk between wrestling fans of "the look".  If you are reading this blog, you probably have had that discussion with a  friend about a myriad of wrestlers.  "Wow! That Guy has an amazing look!" or "This guy has the look, Vince must love this guy."  There's always the classic, "This guy is really good, but he doesn't have the look." For decades on end we have been conditioned to believe that certain looks were what made it to the main event, or a certain build would lead to marketable success. The question is, what is "the look." Historically speaking, "the look" is related to a strong physique or muscular tone, and overall size.  They want someone that will draw attention in crowds.  There has always been the argument that you don't want a top guy who looks like your neighbor or friend, but someone who is larger than life.  Hulk Hogan had the look, The Rock had the look, and John Cena ha...
