WWE Extreme Rules 2014 Preview and Predicitons

Tonight is the night for Extreme Rules.  This is WWE's follow-up to Wrestlemania XXX and this could be a heck of a show.  Let's do a brief breakdown of each match and give predictions... shall we?

(Pre-show) WeeLC Match
El Torito vs.  Hornswoggle

This could be the strangest match in quite some time, but also a big surprise. El Torito is a very talented mini wrestler from Mexico and Hornswoggle has taken some big bumps over the years. This match could be entertaining, especially in the pre-show.  This could be also be bad, depending on how the handle it... but forget that, let's just enjoy the fact that two talented mini wrestlers are getting a spot to perform on a big stage.

Prediction: El Torito

R-Truth and Xavier Woods vs. Alexander Rusev

This is gonna be quick.  I'm happy that Xavier Woods is getting a PPV paycheck, but I'm sad he's stuck with R-Truth in undercard hell.  Rusev is getting support from the WWE brass and has a decent look, a decent moveset, and a gorgeous ambassador in Lana.  There is no way that Rusev loses here.

Prediction: Alexander Rusev

Jack Swagger vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Cesaro

This is a bizarre match in the way that it feels thrown together.  Cesaro is in a strange spot where he is getting pops from the crowd but he is still working heel and is paired with Heyman.  That being said, both are faces to the heels in Swagger and Zeb Coulter.  RVD is just here to be the middle man good guy.  Overall, it just feels weird. Hopefully they deliver something good.

Prediction: Cesaro
Tamina vs. Paige (C) for the Divas Championship

This could be fun. I am so happy that Paige is getting a showcase to shine on PPV.  Her new finisher looks deadly, and add that to her Scorpion Crosslock, she has an awesome moveset.  Tamina will be playing the power wrestler and Paige will be the firecracker underdog. I dig it.

Prediction: Paige

Big E Langston (C) vs. Bad News Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship
Thank goodness that Wade Barrett has found a second wind after his collapse over the past two years (which was not his fault).  This Bad News Barrett character has showcased his personality very well and has propelled him through the tournament to crown the #1 Contender for the IC Title. Barrett has a lot of momentum and has been very fun to watch.

On the flip side of that coin, Big E has been dropping off the face of the planet.  He has been wrestling on Superstars and Main Event while the tournament was getting all of the attention. It really feels like he is about to go on the back burner.  I hope Big E can make it through an rough patch ahead, because he is very talented and deserves to be on this roster.  Unfortunately for him, I don't think Big E is champ after tonight.

Prediction: Bad News Barrett
 Steel Cage Match
John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt

This could get real interesting. I hope that this match delivers on the fun and disturbing build that Bray Wyatt has provided the audience. These two could put on a great show and we know Bray can tell a story in the ring.  One thing I hope for is Bray Wyatt winning. He needs this.  He lost at Mania and he really shouldn't be losing every match, so this needs to happen.

Prediction: Bray Wyatt

Extreme Rules Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Daniel Bryan (C) vs. Kane

This very well could be the best match on the show by the end of the night.  Daniel Bryan and Kane have a long history dating back to 2012 with their singles feud that turned into the hottest tag team in town. Now Kane is back as being the monster instead of the awful "Corporate Kane" character.  These two have had good matches in the past and I think they will deliver yet again.  I do feel there is only one outcome.  This is the first title defense for Daniel Bryan, and I don't think the Yes Train is stopping here.  Daniel Bryan needs a solid win on PPV and a solid defense. This match delivers just that. Unfortunately, it probably won't be the main event.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan
 The Shield vs. Evolution

The reason the WWE Championship match is not the main event is because the hottest match on the card is the six man tag match of Shield and Evolution. This was my dream match coming out of Mania and they are delivering.  These six guys should put on a spectacle. The build has been very strong and the crowd in New Jersey will be hot for this match.  My mind says that Shield needs to win this match, but they might go in a different direction.  I could see the Shield losing via nefarious means, i.e. new member, Ric Flair swerve, or random shenanigans.  From there we could build up to a big match in the future, likely with no Batista, that could be a hot deal.

Prediction: Evolution

I am looking forward to the show tonight, and I hope you enjoy it! Please check back for my review blog and a vocal review via podcast next week.

WWE Cruiserweight Classic: Thoughts and Hopes for the tournament

Wednesday night kicked off the opening of the 32 man tournament known as the Cruiserweight Classic. This is an extremely significant venture for the WWE and the WWE Network.  Growing up a wrestling fan, I didn't think I would see something like this happen in a major North American promotion, and certainly not the WWE.  The fact that most of the talent lineup are not under a WWE contract makes it even more fascinating. What also makes this tournament fascinating is the presentation.  This show is being treated like a sporting event with serious discussion on weight cutting, fighting styles and the representations of their countries.  They even did a Bracketology special.  This is a complete departure from the WWE presentation style.  This isn't sports entertainment, this is professional wrestling, and they are pushing that fact.  Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan bring a feel of legitimacy and excitement to their announcing that this show feels even more special. They are pur

WWE Extreme Rules 2014: Thoughts and Review

I just wanted to do a quick breakdown of my thoughts on the show last night.  Overall, I enjoyed the show. That being said, there were a few things I did not care for.  Let's break it down! Pre-Show--- WeeLC: El Torito vs. Hornswoggle: This worked for me as a comedy special attraction.  The second half of this match really got over with the crowd at the IZOD Center.  Good for these guys to put on a fun show. Rating : *** Match #1: Swagger vs. RVD vs. Cesaro This was a fun match and had the crowd going.  The finish was terrifying with Rob cutting his face on the trash can.  This was a nice win for Cesaro, and I hope he can move on soon. Rating: *** Match #2: R-Truth and Xavier Woods vs. Alexander Rusev: Squashtastic. Plain and simply a quick and painless match that felt kind of pointless.  Rusev looks strong, and R-Truth continues to ruin Xavier Woods.   Rating : * Match #3: Bad News Barrett vs. Big E Langston (C) for the Intercontinental Championship: This w

Ring of Honor: Global Wars Review

Just wanted to give my quick thoughts on the first of two joint ventures between Ring of Honor and NJPW. Last Night's show, Global Wars, took place at the Ted Reeves Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Cananda.  It was a pretty decent show so let's break it down. 1.) Michael Bennett vs. ACH This was a fine opener, but it wasn't a thrilling match.  ACH got a few nice spots in, but there was never any doubt in the fan's minds on who was winning.  Bennett has a big match against Tanahashi on Saturday, so Bennett needed to look good.  Mission accomplished.   Rating : ** 2.) Michael Elgin vs.  Takaaki Watanabe Similar situation to the first match where Elgin needed to look good before he faces AJ Styles for the IWGP Championship this weekend.  There were some fun moments, but again this was never in doubt. Rating : ** 3.)  The Decade vs. Red Dragon vs. The Briscoe Brothers The Briscoes won in a fairly short but fun matchup.  Red Dragon has a match coming up with the Young
